Storytelling in the Classroom: A Digital Project with StoryJumper

Final Task – Inspired by StoryJumper I really liked the StoryJumper activity from  Teacher Laura’s blog  because it was creative, well structured and very motivating for students. It helps students develop writing skills in a fun and meaningful way, combining imagination and digital tools. My Final Classroom Activity: “Create your own digital story” Based on this idea, I have designed a final activity for my own students. Students in 2nd grade of Primary Education will work in groups of three to create their own short digital story using StoryJumper. Each group will: Plan a simple story with a beginning, middle and end Write short and simple sentences in English Choose characters, settings and illustrations Create their digital book using StoryJumper Present their story orally to the class Learning Objectives To develop basic writing skills in English To use vocabulary in context To organise ideas ...

Our Very Hungry Caterpillar

Our Digital Twist on "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"  In our English class, the 2nd-grade students have stepped up as digital authors! Using Storyjumper , we adapted Eric Carle's classic story to reinforce our language skills. It was an inspiring journey to see our version of the story come to life on the screen, combining technology with creative writing.  https://www.storyjumper.com/book/read/188911191/THE-VERY-HUNGRY-CATERPILLAR REFLECTION 1. How did you organise the groups?   I organised the 2nd-grade students into pairs . This allowed them to collaborate effectively, with one student focusing on selecting the "props" and the other on typing the short sentences in English. 2. What was the sequence of tasks that you followed to get to the final product? Step 1: We reviewed the original story and brainstormed new food items for the caterpillar. Step 2: Each pair drafted their page on a storyboard to plan the text and the scene. Step 3: Introduction to the St...
Listening Activity for Primary Students: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Video https://edpuzzle.com/assignments/69b4774de70c9bb2651e5999/watch Reflection Reason for choosing the video For this activity I chose a short video based on the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle . Learning objectives The main objectives of this activity are: To develop students’ listening comprehension skills To expose students to authentic audiovisual material To learn and reinforce basic vocabulary related to food and animals To encourage oral communication in English Sequence of activities Pre-listening activity Before watching the video, the teacher shows pictures of different foods and asks student...

Creating a Butterfly Timeline with TimeToast 🐛🦋

Imagen
For this activity, my 7–8-year-old students (2nd grade of Primary Education) worked in small groups to create a timeline using TimeToast about the life cycle of a butterfly :   "A butterfly starts its life as an egg. The egg is very small and is usually on a leaf. After some days, a caterpillar comes out of the egg. The caterpillar eats leaves and grows. Then, it forms a chrysalis. Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar changes. Finally, a beautiful butterfly comes out." The main aim of the activity was to help students summarise information , understand the order of events, and practice cooperation and decision-making in small groups. Steps Followed Reading the text together : We read the text aloud and highlighted the key words: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, butterfly. Planning in groups : Students worked in groups of 2–3. They chose what to write for each stage of the life cycle and practised saying it in simple sentences. Creating the timeline in TimeT...
Do We Read the Same Way in Every Language?  Have you ever noticed that you don’t read in the same way in every language you speak? I recently reflected on this, and I realised that my reading habits change depending on the language, the purpose, and even the format. When we look at different readers, some holding printed books, others reading on digital devices, we can imagine very different experiences. A person reading a novel in a comfortable position probably chose that book and feels relaxed and engaged. Someone reading a textbook or working on a screen might be concentrating more intensely, perhaps because the text was assigned. Our emotional response to reading often depends on whether it is for pleasure or obligation. In my case, in Spanish (my L1), I enjoy reading novels and educational books. I prefer reading on paper because it feels more immersive and helps me disconnect. It is usually my leisure time. In English (my L2), I mostly read teaching blogs, article...
